Lung Repair and Regeneration

The Königshoff Lab aims to decipher the role of developmental signaling pathways in chronic lung disease. We investigate developmental signal mediators involved in lung injury, disturbed epithelial-mesenchmal crosstalk, and extracellular matrix deposition in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We aim to identify novel targets amenable for future therapeutic strategies and translate our findings into clinical use. Further, we explore the endogenous regenerative potential of the adult human lung, which would open completely novel avenues for the treatment of patients with chronic lung disease.
